Terms of Service

These are the terms you agree to when you use Premise. Premise is built by a small team; questions go to support@premise.chat.

Effective September 3, 2026 · version 2026-09-03

What Premise is (and isn't)

Premise is a college and career guidance mentor for high-school students. It helps you make sense of what's unclear, see realistic options with their tradeoffs, and pick small things to try. It is not an admissions service or chance calculator, not an essay writer, not a replacement for a school counselor or any professional, and not a mental-health or crisis service. Guidance is informational: you make your own decisions, and outcomes aren't promised or guaranteed.

Who can use it, and how you agree

You must be at least 13 years old. You agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy on the consent screen inside Premise; we record which version you agreed to and when. If you are under 18, Premise also needs a parent or guardian's yes, given by email, before it opens for you; the Privacy Policy explains how that works and how a guardian can withdraw.

Your account

Use an accurate email and keep your password safe; you are responsible for activity on your account. One account per person; don't share logins or impersonate anyone. Right now Premise is in a private tester phase: an account works only with a tester grant.

Acceptable use

  • Don't use Premise to harm yourself or others, or for anything illegal.
  • Don't try to reach other users' data or break the security controls.
  • Don't try to make the AI ignore its safety limits or produce disallowed content.
  • Don't scrape, resell, or build a competing dataset from the service.
  • Don't abuse the free tier (for example, multiple accounts to evade limits).

Safety systems may block or withhold a response automatically. Premise does not promise routine human review of every flagged message; account enforcement is handled separately from the crisis-response path.

Honest by design

Premise will never give admissions odds, rank schools by prestige, write or edit your essays, invent “passion projects,” or sort you into a personality type. High-stakes factual questions are answered from a dated official source or pointed to one.

Essays

Essay Studio gives feedback on writing that is yours: questions, reactions, and named patterns in the margin. It does not write sentences for you, and it refuses when asked to. Every word you submit anywhere is your own.

Your content

Your words stay yours. You grant us a limited license to process your content only to provide the service to you, including sending it to our AI provider to generate your guidance (see the Privacy Policy). We don't sell it, and we don't use your writing to train AI models. The only research use is the separate, off-by-default opt-in the Privacy Policy describes, and it covers check-in numbers, not your writing. Don't submit other people's private information.

Plans & payment

  • Tester phase (now)billing is in test mode. Nobody is charged, and access comes from a tester grant with its own limits on replies and cost, which Premise tells you about when a limit is reached.
  • Free tiera monthly starter with a Direction Snapshot, a set number of mentor replies, one experiment, and one reflection; the allowance resets each calendar month. During the tester phase the tester grant's limits apply instead.
  • At launchpaid plans open. Their price, what they include, renewal and cancellation terms are shown before any charge, billing is handled by our payment processor, and cancellation stops future charges. These terms will carry a new version when that happens.
  • Access Programreduced-cost or free places by application. Applying doesn't guarantee a place; we read each application and respond.

Safety & crisis

Premise is not a crisis or mental-health service. If a message suggests crisis, self-harm, or abuse, it stops giving guidance and shows real resources: the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) and the Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741). If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact emergency services.

The service is provided “as is”

We work to keep Premise reliable and accurate, but AI output can be wrong. Check anything important, especially high-stakes facts. To the fullest extent the law allows, Premise isn't liable for decisions you make based on it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under law that can't be waived.

Changes & ending

Each version of these terms carries the date it took effect. When they change, you are asked to read and agree to the new version before you continue. You can stop using Premise and delete your account at any time from Account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
